However, you can find sometimes that emotion can be a synonym of affect. Emotions are unseen and therefore harder to identify than are concrete objects.

2. Emotions have aftereffects and Emotions are complex.

Aftereffects and emotions. Once we have been elicited by an emotion, other emotions are more easily triggered. For example, we can have anger that is secondary emotion after having fear that is primary emotion.

We might be oversensitive to prompting event in our life and in this case, we might have intense emotions that continue longer than usual. Emotions are complex and they have many components.

3. Emotions come and go. Emotions have functions.

Emotions are comparable to ocean waves. We can experience one or more emotion at the same time. Most of our emotions last up to one minute, however we can feel sometimes that emotion lasts ‘’forever’’ and never ends, because emotion can repeat.

Emotions help us to understand what is happening with our body. Emotions help us to communicate with others via body language and facial expressions.

It is very important to learn how to identify our emotions and then understand the connection between emotions, behaviors and thoughts. For example, people with anxiety especially children have difficulty separating their emotions from reality and recognizing own thoughts.
